![]() My work is still very much in flux, I am experimenting with many techniques and surface treatments, finding joy in the new and untried. I have always been influenced by natural forms and whether this is the sensousness of natural forms and textures or more wild shapes and patterns, there is always a connection to organic shapes in my work. Over the last few years I have made a journey from anger to joy and this is reflected in a move from spiky, rough shapes to smoother more sensuous forms. In the last few years many things changed for the better in my life. These changes culminated in a long trip I made at the start of 2003, spending a few months by different seas. Immersing myself in the different waters, diving and snorkling, felt like a rebirth into a happier me. I was also fascinated by the underwater world as a totally different environment. Shapes are alien, beautiful and fascinating. Light behaves in different ways underwater; colours are amplified or subdued depending on the lighting conditions. Due to the difference between air and water you can have shapes underwater that could not exist on land, such as huge fans with just a tiny foot. For these reasons, the underwater world is of great importance to me and this is informing my work currently, in shell shapes but also more abstract work I want to do for the future. |
